Should I Use Fragrance Candles or Essential Oils?

If you’re an avid fan of having fresh scents in your room then you must be familiar with candles and essential oils. You must have also tried both as well and preferred one over the other due to a reason or two. But if you have not used both or are not familiar with both then fret not, because that is what we are here to discuss today. We are not going to tell our readers to use one over the other, but to enlighten them with the pros and cons of the two air fresheners. Let us get started with going over the basics.

Candles are commonly seen as warm and used for light. Nowadays, we find a variety of scents for candles. There are scents for every season, every holiday, different moods, and just about any other reason you can think of. Candles are usually used to clear out the stench of food after cooking, to keep bathrooms smell nice, and to make a cozy atmosphere in the family room. Just looking at the flickering flame gives off a warm and comforting feeling. Not only do they smell nice, but they also don’t need any power to run off.

Essential oils, on the other hand, need an instrument to aid in dispersing their aroma. The instruments are usually run-on electricity and are water-based. Essential oils are typically used for healing benefits. These benefits can range from relaxation, stress relief, uplifting mood, and etc. There are a variety of uses for essential oils and even more variety of scents. Some oils can be applied to the skin as well. Now that we have covered the basics of candles and essential oils, let’s compare them.

1.Cost

If I were to have you guess which would be more inexpensive, would you choose candles? You are not alone because essential oils are typically seen for more lavish households and such. You would find candles everywhere, from your nearest drugstore to a nice department store. But just like with many products, if you buy a cheap candle the quality will match the price. It might smell artificial or be full of toxins. The average price of a good-quality candle would be around $25. Most quality essential oils are also in the same price range, but they can last for years. You can also mix essential oils for different scents, which you cannot do with candles.

2. Longevity

The average 8-ounce candle will burn for 40 to 50 hours. While a 10 ml essential oil bottle can give you more than 100 hours of run time! You only need a few drops from an essential to have the aroma in the room last for hours. Compared to candles, wax-made items are not meant for long-term use.

3. Ingredients

Essential oils are known for their quality ingredients and purity. But the ingredients of candles are not talked about much. The majority of candles contain fragrances, which are also linked to many health risks. These health risks include asthma triggers, allergens, and hormone disrupters. If you want a fragrance that would benefit your health, essential oils are the way to go. Not only do they smell good, but they also have beneficial health benefits.

4. Scents

Just as we mentioned before, when you buy a candle, it only comes in one scent. If you want another scent, you have to switch and buy another candle. However, with essential oils, you can mix to your liking! Mix to find your perfect scent or mix to have the perfect combination of health benefits!

5. Safety

While a candle's flame looks very comforting and warm, they are very dangerous in creating fires. Many people forget to blow out candles or fall asleep with them still on. Or sometimes a candle is just too close to certain objects and catches them on fire! Nothing spells danger like fire does. Even though most diffusers are power-based, there are alternatives! Vorda has an all-natural, powerless wood diffuser. All you need to do is drip a few drops of your favorite essential oil and just wait for the magic to be smelled!

Even though most of these points make it seem like essential oils are the right choice, everyone has their own preference! We are just explaining our own preferences. If you disagree with our points, we want to hear your opinions! Let us know which you like more or if you have a change of mind!
